There's No Borders in the Sky (En el cielo no hay fronteras): Tindouf, ALGERIA ★

About: We will be observing the sky with the refugee community located in Tindouf, aiming to communicate the idea that the universe has no borders, the transition between constellations, or between scales of distance, are not defined, but a human construction. In space, as in Earth, only the weak see the necessity of drawing artificial borders. For that, we will be observing close objects, such as the Moon, or Mars, then move to double stars such as Almach, or further objects like the Orion Nebula.

Stargazing and Astronomy - The first Steps: Rajshahi, BANGLADESH ★
Organiser: Bangladesh Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

About: Stargazing and knowing the sky is vert important for Astronomy Education as well as Astronomy Olympiads. This event will focus young students to help them know about their sky and familiarise themselves with stargazing challenges they will face in the actual situation. The location is chosen to be Rajshahi where there is very low light pollution and on the right day milky way path can be observed. Educators and Trainers of BDOAA will share their experience of Sky Observations. A small sky-quiz will also be held for young students and people of all age.
We hope this event will popularize Astronomy among Bangladeshi people and entich their knowledge about the Universe.

100 Hours of Astronomy Under The Ethiopian Sky: Addis Ababa, ETHIOPIA ★

Reaching for the Stars: Indore, INDIA ★

Free Public Outreach - Moon and Sun Observations: Leon, NICARAGUA ★

About: There are three events to be implemented in the area of León City to participate into the worldwide celebrations of the centennial foundation of the IAU. These events will consist in free public observations of the Sun and Moon, encouraging to people to observe and stay to share experiences with the local amateur astronomers. Our main goal with these activities is to let know to people about the continuous efforts of IAU to spread astronomy sciences worldwide and at local level to raise awareness about why astronomy is so relevant for today´s societies and what local astronomers are currently doing to keep the heads up to the skies. Star parties in Cusco: Cusco, PERU ★

About: This free event will teach astronomy to children and young people. On January 11 and 12, we will give lectures about the solar system and the dimensions of the universe. Then we make sky observations with a telescope: the Sun, the Moon and some planets. On Friday, January 11 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., we will perform astronomy talks at San Antonio Abad University in Cusco. After talks we will observe the Cusco' sky until 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, January 12 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., we will do astronomy talks in the main square of Saylla, we will Coordinate with the Municipality and the Dean of Ricardo Palma's School in Saylla to convene children and young people. We will try to make observations until 9:00 p.m.

Astronomy for All: Kruševac, SERBIA ★

About: A telescope will be placed in several local communities during these four days, particularly in the four largest in our city: Lazarica, Rasadnik, Bagdala and Centar. In the evening, there will be observing sessions of the night sky (Mars and the Moon). We will discuss on the theme of observational astronomy and telescopes with a goal to obtaining additional support to build in Krusevac an astronomical observatory. Since the activity itself is organized in honor of 100 years of IAU, we will organize a lecture for the public in the city library about International Astronomy Union, as well as about amateur astronomy and amateur astronomers contributions to the development of this science. Lectures will be conducted 10 and 11 January in the afternoon.

Thursday January 10: An Astronomical Observation at orphanage in Damascus (Al-Mezzeh). In the evening: Celebration on Noor Al-Sham satellite TV Channel
Friday January 11: An Astronomical Observation for the public in The Syrian Astronomical Observatory.
Sunday January 13: An Astronomical observation in the provinces of Aleppo and Homs, Lattakia and Tartous in the provinces centers for children, also a sky observation through a telescope in Damascus near Omayyad square, and the event is intended for students of primary and secondary schools.

100 Years of Astronomy: Kampala, UGANDA ★

Event Date(s): January 10-11, 2019
About: The event will teach basics of astronomy to amateur astronomers between January 10 and 11, 2019. It will open on January 10 at 9:00 am with introductory public lecture held at Nagongera campus of Busitema University on stellar physics, solar system and the dimensions of the universe. This will be interactive so that participants are allowed to share their experiences and perceptions. We will then move to make sky observations over Nagongera town council with the telescope while exploring the basics of observational astronomy. The observations will be followed by display of images of celestial objects like galaxies. On January 11, at 9:00 am, participants will observe at least celestial objects with a telescope, then will discuss their findings. At 2:00 pm, there will be direct engagement of the community in public lecture series entitled 'Astronomy in the corridor'. The public outreach team will share cutting-edge scientific discoveries and knowledge of the universe in ways that inspire, excite, challenge, and inform the public through events at public venues, large-scale exhibits and displays, interactive websites, video content, and a range of print products.
