The large refracting telescope at the Vienna University Observatory: Vienna, Austria

About: At the time of its first light 1880 the large refracting telescopes at the Vienna University Observatory was state of the art concerning technical details it set standards. Nevertheless a few years later it was overtaken by still larger refractors. The constructor, Howard Grubb, Dublin, put some remarkable details into practise. In the talk we will present basic techniques and technical specialties of this historic telescope and others ot the time show the significance of this telescope in its historic context.
