Description

La Plata Astronomical Observatory is today the “Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas” (Faculty of Astronomical and Geophysical Sciences, FCAG hereafter) of the “Universidad Nacional de La Plata” (La Plata National University, UNLP). The Observatory was born together with the city of La Plata, as a strategic institution within Dardo Rocha’s plans to create the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires. A long time afterwards, it became one of the pillars on which the current UNLP was founded. During its 125 years, the Observatory has gained international recognition as a prestigious academic institution, becoming a reference for the world’s scientific community.
