Description
This event will be held at the Saddlehorn Picnic Area parking lot near the headquarters of Colorado National Monument, four miles inside the monument's West Entrance. The West Entrance is located on Colorado Highway 340 about 2.5 miles south of the I-70 Interchange (Exit 19) at Fruita, Colorado. Visitor parking is available at the venue, and there is overflow parking within easy walking distance. The adjacent Saddlehorn Campground (camping fee required) offers both tent and RV spaces, but no utility hookups.
The venue is perched on a canyon rim at an elevation of 5750 feet above sea level and affords relatively unobstructed views north, east and south. Higher ground to the west somewhat limits views in that direction. Early April days are usually mild, but evenings are typically cool, and frost often forms before sunrise.
Fruita and Grand Junction (ten miles east) offer a broad range of dining, lodging and other tourist amenities.
