In 1609, Galileo Galilei first used an astronomical telescope to observe the heavens signaling a new era of exploration. In honor of this historic event, the Adler will celebrate the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) in 2009. As America's First Planetarium, the Adler will unveil a special exhbition, new sky shows, public observing events and programming, and communicate the impact of astronomy on society and culture over the past 400 years while sparking an astronomical interest in a new generation of explorers.
