Description
The Latrobe Valley Astronomical Society is holding a Public Observing Night on Friday 3 April 2009 at the Wirilda Environment Park Education Centre as part of the world-wide "100 Hours of Astronomy" event. The Society will be unveiling its new 400 mm diameter telescope, and have a number of other telescopes available also for public viewing. At the start of the evening, we hope to have good views of the Moon, Saturn and other bright objects, and then later, we hope to see some galaxies and nebulae. If the weather is unkind, we will present a talk on "Beginning Astronomy" aimed at those interested in starting out in amateur astronomy, including "finding your way around the sky", and of course, "what kind of telescope should I buy". Make sure to bring some warm clothing. There is no charge for the event.
