I am an amateur astronomer living in the Los Angeles area and am currently the Managing Director of the Sidewalk Astronomers. The idea of taking telescopes to the people made the Sidewalk Astronomers the perfect astronomy club for me – the first thing I did when I looked through the scope was look around for someone to share it with.
I have traveled with John Dobson to several countries, joining clubs for their first sidewalk observations. These experiences had a profound effect on me, seeing the reactions of the club members and the public inspired me to turn my focus to expanding sidewalk astronomy, especially internationally.
In 2007, taking an idea from Sidewalk Astronomers in Brazil, I helped to organize the first International Sidewalk Astronomy Night. ISAN was a success, astronomers in over 30 countries took part and in only 2 years, ISAN has become an accepted event worldwide.
I am a true amateur astronomer; my days are spent making sure the special events in people’s lives are celebrated with nature. I own a flower shops in Burbank and Los Angeles.
I feel very lucky to be working on 100 Hours of Astronomy and know this will be the largest public star party ever held and I am so glad to be a part of it.
